The requirement for emergency lighting is contained in The Building Regulations 2000, which lay down where emrgency lighting must be provided and covers both public buildings (such as schools, hospitals and nursing homes), as well as all places of work. The regulations require that systems comply with BS 5266-1(1999), the code of practice for emergency lighting.
Commercial and Public Sector
Staff at MAW Electrical can provide a free survey of your premises and advise on any deficiencies in premises with existing systems, or what is needed for new sites. We can also advise on testing, as part of your fire safety procedure. In addition, we can provide regular inspection and maintenance at a competetive rate.
Domestic
There is no legal requirement to fit emergency lighting to existing domestic premises but given that fires in the home are most dangerous at night, our team members at MAW Electrical are happy to advise on emergency lighting for escape routes from bedrooms, which can often be fitted at a surprisingly affordable cost.
